TikTok for Podcasts 🎙️

TikTalk

Available Domain: Podseek.com

💡 TLDR: A platform which surfaces short podcast clips to users in a similar to way TikTok

1. Problem/Opportunity

The Problem: Podcasts have a huge discoverability problem. Of course some podcasts should never be discovered, but that’s a separate problem.

Most people tend to have a very small number of podcasts in their rotations, meaning they’re missing out on little nuggets of content that they would love from other podcasts that they never get to discover. But we can solve that.

Market Size: The global podcasting market size is around $19bn annually, and is estimated to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 27.6% going forward.

2. Solution

The Idea: Create a platform which surfaces short podcast clips to users in a similar to way TikTok

How it Works:

  • Creators sign up for the platform and upload their podcasts as they would on any other platform.

  • The platform automatically cuts up their podcasts into short clips which are then categorised.

  • Users on the platform are served up clips based on their preferences, with audio only or video options available.

  • Over time the algorithm learns more and more about a user’s preferences and serves up more relevant podcast clips

Go-to-market: Start with a single vertical, like health, and get the big players in this niche on board and sell to their audiences.

Monetisation: In feed advertising (+ rev share for creators)

Startup Costs: This would become a highly technical build but you could build an MVP here for <$1,000

3. How You’ll Get Rich 💰

Exit Strategy: Exit to a large podcasting platform, like Buzzsprout or Podbean

Exit Multiple: Multiples for ad-based companies are sitting around 8.7x EBITDA currently, but there are some heavy hitters in there so actual multiples may be lower

JUST THE TIP

Trend 📈: .AI Domain Purchases are Growing Rapidly

Buying a good .com domain these days is pretty tough. But purchases of .ai domains is growing at a rapid rate. Copy.ai, Mistral.ai, it’s becoming the go-to domain for hot AI companies.

Interestingly a lot of big companies are asleep at the wheel here and haven’t bought up their .ai domains. Like Beehiiv for example, our newsletter platform. We may even pick it up for ourselves 👀

THE MONEYSHOT

How to Sell 100,000 Hats in 2 Years

How do you accidentally make $3m?

Well that’s exactly what Bart, Ejay and Grant did when they started Dad Gang. In just 2 years they’ve sold more than 100,000 hats, netting them around $3m in the process. This is their story.

Back in May 2022 these three Dads took just $750 and made 100 hats. They were a hit and sold out in just 36 hours.

For their next production run they made 300 hats. They were gone in a week. Clearly they were onto something.

Fellow Dads loved the design and when Mookie Betts from the LA Dodgers wore the hat the brand skyrocketed in popularity.

But why did the brand gain so much traction so quickly? Well because they’re not selling a product, they’re selling an identity. Sure the designs are great, but they’re appealing to all the Dads out there who are proud fathers and wanwt to show it.

Sell an identity, not a product and you’ll make more money than you can even imagine.
