HACKATHON TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Introduction

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in the Half Baked x Bolt 10-Day Founder Hackathon (“Hackathon”).By registering or submitting a project, you agree to be bound by these Terms.The Hackathon is organised by Half-Baked Ventures Ltd, an Irish company (“Half Baked”), and sponsored by Bolt.new (“Bolt”).


2. Eligibility

To participate, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction).

  • Submit an original project built during the Hackathon.

  • Agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

2.1 Prohibited Regions

Due to EU and Irish sanctions laws, participants residing in the following countries or regions are not eligible to receive prizes:

  • Iran

  • North Korea

  • Syria

  • Cuba

  • Russia (certain regions subject to EU sanctions)

  • Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine

  • Any individual or entity listed on EU restrictive measures lists

  • Any country where Irish/EU law or banking restrictions prohibit payment

Half Baked reserves the right to request proof of identity and residency before awarding any prize.


3. Nature of the Competition

This Hackathon is a skill-based competition.Winners are selected based solely on merit by judges appointed by Half Baked.There is no element of chance.


4. Entry Fees

Participation is free. No purchase or payment is required.


5. Submission Requirements

  • Links

  • Product demos

  • Repositories

  • Descriptions

  • Videos

  • Any additional materials relevant to their project

All submissions must be original and created by the participant/team.Projects already live or generating revenue before the Hackathon are not eligible unless explicitly approved.


6. Judging Criteria

Projects will be judged based on:

  1. Execution & completeness

  2. Originality

  3. Use of Bolt (front-end, back-end, or hosting)

  4. Real-world validation / demand

  5. Clarity of presentation

Judges’ decisions are final.


7. Prizes

Total prize pool: €15,000Individual prizes range from €7,500 to €2,000, as published.
Prizes are paid via bank transfer or an alternative method determined by Half Baked.

7.1 Payment Restrictions

If Half Baked is unable to issue a prize due to:

  • Local banking restrictions,

  • Sanctions compliance, or

  • Regulatory constraints,

Half Baked may offer an equivalent alternative prize or may be unable to issue a prize.Half Baked is not liable for payments blocked by financial institutions.

7.2 Taxes

Winners are solely responsible for any tax obligations in their country of residence.


8. Intellectual Property

Participants retain ownership of their submissions.However, by entering the Hackathon, you grant Half Baked and Bolt a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:

  • Use

  • Display

  • Publish

  • Modify (for formatting)

  • Promote

your submission, including text, images, screenshots, demos, or videos, for marketing or promotional purposes.


9. Code of Conduct

Participants may not submit:

  • Illegal content

  • Harassment, hate speech, or abusive material

  • Content that violates any third-party IP rights

  • Projects that incite harm or misinformation

Half Baked may disqualify any participant for breaching these rules.


10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Irish law:

  • Half Baked and Bolt are not liable for any loss, damage, or data issues arising from participation.

  • Half Baked may modify, suspend, or cancel the Hackathon at its discretion.


11. Privacy

All personal data is handled under the Half Baked Hackathon Privacy Policy, described below.


12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Ireland.Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of Ireland.

This Privacy Policy explains how Half-Baked Ventures (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you visit our website, sign up for our newsletter, or engage with our lead sharing offers. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Half-Baked Ventures Ltd is the controller of participant data.

  • Country of residence

  • Project submissions

  • Videos, images, or demo links

  • Social accounts or project URLs

  • Any information voluntarily submitted through forms or communication channels


3. How We Use Your Information

We use participant data to:

  • Administer the Hackathon

  • Verify eligibility

  • Judge submissions

  • Contact winners

  • Transfer prize payments

  • Provide participant updates


4. Promotional Use of Submissions

By submitting a project, you grant Half Baked and Bolt the right to use:

  • Your name

  • Your project name

  • Text descriptions

  • Screenshots

  • Demo links

  • Images

  • Videos

  • Your submission materials

for:

  • Marketing

  • Social media promotion

  • Announcements

  • Case studies

  • Advertisements

  • Press releases

  • Future hackathon promotion

This licence is non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, and perpetual for promotional usage.


5. Data Sharing

We share data only with:

  • Bolt (the sponsor)

  • Contractors assisting with hackathon administration

  • Payment providers for prize delivery

  • Legal authorities if required by law


6. Data Storage & Security

Data is stored on secure, access-controlled systems.We retain data only as long as needed for the Hackathon and promotional use.


7. Your Rights

Under EU GDPR, participants may request:

  • Access to their data

  • Correction

  • Deletion

  • Restriction

  • Transfer
