🔧 Machine Maintenance as a Service

Firing on all cylinders

The Problem: Every factory, warehouse, dairy farm, and bottling plant on earth runs on machines. And these machines break. A lot. US businesses spend $222 billion a year keeping these things alive - and the "system" for doing it is some combination of a manual from 1997 that's held together by duct tape and a 58-year-old technician named Gary. Meanwhile, robots are becoming increasingly ubiquitous, which means in five years there will be vastly more machines to maintain, and poor Gary needs to retire eventually. It’s time to create a modern platform for this sector. Here's what we're thinking.

The Solution:

💡 The Idea: A full-stack machine maintenance platform (part service company, part software, part parts marketplace) that owns the operational layer for every machine on a shop floor.

🛠️ Product:

  • Every machine a customer owns gets enrolled, QR-tagged, and put on a quarterly PM schedule. Sensors and camera-based predictive alerts flag failures before they happen, and operators get a full service history for their specific machine plus every other identical unit on the platform - so when a bearing fails the same way in three other facilities, you already know the fix.

  • Spare parts are one tap away from an in-app marketplace with next-day shipping, and an onboard AI chatbot that's been trained on the exact machine's docs, failure history, and tribal knowledge from the oldest techs on the network can walk any operator through a repair step by step.

  • Over time you build up a data moat by hiring the most senior techs in every category, send them in to do the work, document every repair, failure mode, and workaround in structured format, and feed it all back into the system.

💼 Business Model: $500-2,000/machine/year for the maintenance subscription, 15-20% markup on parts, and $10-25k/facility for the enterprise platform. Margin scales with route density.

End Goal: Acquired by a Siemens, Honeywell, Rockwell or ABB once the data layer becomes load-bearing infrastructure for industrial AI. Target exit 6-10x ARR.

🎨 How to Create a Fundraising Deck with Claude Design

The Context: Since Anthropic Labs launched Claude Design last week, everyone’s been raving about the tool. It’s great at creating prototypes, but does an even better job at creating slide decks. I barely gave it anything and it kicked out a fundraising deck that genuinely looks great. Here's the exact workflow.

Step-by-step:

  1. Go to Claude Design, attach your logo, and prompt it with: "Create a deck that is about the seed fundraise for a [INDUSTRY] company called [NAME]. Here is the outline of content: [paste your 10-12 slide outline]." Claude builds the first full version in under a minute.

  2. Refine through conversation ("make slide 3 more data-heavy"), drop inline comments on specific elements, or use the custom sliders to tweak spacing, colour hierarchy and density. Every change updates the underlying design live and stays on-brand across every slide.

  3. Once it clicks, export to Canva for final polish, download as PDF or PPTX for investors
